The Gibson Center – Chiropractic Care Center, NW Arkansas

I remember sitting in the Neurosurgeon’s office, bawling my eyes out because he said he needed to do surgery on my herniated disc. I was only 28 years old. I thought to myself, “there is no way I am letting you cut on me….” My journey began when I was in 8th grade when we had to work on a career notebook. I had always wanted to be a P.E. teacher and coach because I loved playing sports and being on a team. So, that’s what I did. After graduating with a Master’s degree, I began teaching and coaching in junior high. That didn’t last long. After 2 years of working through the bureaucratic mess that teachers have to put up with, I quit teaching and went into sales. I did very well, but that was when I ruptured my L5/S1 disc. The pain and numbness down my leg was unbearable. I couldn’t sleep or exercise because of the pain. It was so bad that I was on disability for over a year. After my injury, I got on the medical merry-go-round. I saw doctor after doctor. Thy had limited treatment options, and primarily prescribed pain medications. Eventually, I ended up at the neurosurgeon’s office. After I left his office that day, I was so depressed. But that depression turned into a determination that there has to be something else for me to try. A friend of mine recommended a Chiropractor. I thought, “I have nothing to lose.” She did chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture. My disc healed without drugs or surgery!! At the same time, though, I was diagnosed with Fibrositis (the earlier term for Fibromyalgia). And of course, the doctor I saw only recommended drugs. It wasn’t until I got into Chiropractic College that I had a professor who specialized in the treatment of Fibromyalgia and other autoimmune diseases. I learned protocols that combined chiropractic and nutrition to help patients get out of pain and regain their health. I followed those protocols and my body healed. After graduating from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas on August 14, 1993, I moved to Northwest Arkansas the next day and soon afterwards, opened my Chiropractic office in Fayetteville. As a Chiropractor, I am both a teacher and a coach, and over the years I have helped 1000’s of patients get out of pain and get their lives back. That is my passion!! I guess in a way, rupturing my disc that day was the best thing that could have happened to me!
